Congratulations, on the excellent, informative and livened up presentation of
the "Human Genome Project" in the 1st Joint SQU/MOH Genetics Symposium
held in the Sultanate of Oman. It gives a wonderful impression of this successful
meeting and the memorable days we spent in Oman. The cartoons selected for
the PROFILE section, are some of those I like very much too.

Thank you for notifying me about The Ambassadors Magazine. It is most interesting to read articles about Oman. Your articles provided excellent coverage of the country and its culture to those outside the Gulf region.

I have gone through the article about Oman in The Ambassadors Magazine. It is very nicely presented, with detailed information about Oman. In fact I was telling my friends to read the article as well. I am happy that you were able to gather enough information about Oman for publication.

We are interested in having the following details about Oman: number of private and general hospitals, number of  specialized doctors (cardiologists, neurologists, psychiatrists,  gastroentrologists, etc.), number of retail pharmacist, total consumption of medicines in the country, and the total purchase of medicines by governmental hospitals. We are a pharmaceutical manufacturer in India.

I enjoyed reading The Ambasadors Magazine, and am looking forward to reading your next issue. I think the organization of the site looks perfect. In my opinion, the articles you choose has to be more related to the concern of the public around the world, and not only for a specific category of persons in order to be more comprehensive and educational. Anyhow, it is a great effort of presentation and research.

IQP was founded in 1982 in Geneva, Switzerland, with its head office in UK. As part of IQP's activities, we have published the following: "Swiss economy", "United Nations - 50 Years", "Indonesian economy" and "Kenyan economy" (to be completed). We hope to publish a large format coffee table book on Egypt's economy. To provide a unique and richly illustrated overview of Egypt's economy, to assist in building and promoting Egypt's image globally, and to assist in attracting foreign investment.

I checked the site, and it is absolutely amazing - GREAT job. You have a lot of contributors now, and the site has so much potential from a business point of view. Here is a couple of remarks from my perspective: The tabs on the left are super great, but then they are highlighted again with pictures in the middle, and then again on the right. I suggest you keep the tabs on the left, and only highlight pictorially those stories that would have made your virtual front cover. When you go to the news section - for example, you have to navigate through the sections until u get to the one thing you probably want to read about. If you add a list of stories at the beginning with hyperlinks to later on in the page when the story section begins, it will be a lot more readable. Otherwise, fantastic information, and a really funky layout, good stuff!!

Papyrology studies showed that Ancient Egyptian civilization was based on the equality between both sexes. Interestingly, 1st Queen, The 1st female Minister, 1st female Judge, and 1st female Surgeon were all Egyptians.

The 1st marriage certificate, written and registered was Egyptian. In one of those certificate the husband says to the bride " Because God's will wanted us to get married and because we both agree to be husband and wife, I have the honor that you come to my home and I will value you as part of myself, I will never degrade you and I will never quit you except if there is some legal cause and if this happens I promise to give you all your rights." The 1st Divorce Certificate in history was also Egyptian and in one of these the man says " I have quitted you, you are no longer my wife, go and find another husband  your ex-husband  Amoun Houtar."  On the back of this certificate you can read that it is written by Tot - clerk registrar and you can see the signature of four witnesses and the seal.

I am really very happy and proud to see this issue. I am very grateful to read your praise of "Medicins sans Frontiers" as they deserve more. I personally met them. The field doctors come from different countries, volunteers, during their holidays, unpaid, and work conscientiously, very hard, and around the clock. At the end of their term, other groups arrive. This naturally has a colossal back-up of organization, finance, care and international respect. Their security comes from the fact that they are impartial and present their services to everyone regardless of color, race, religion, or country. My delight that many of our "community" doctors, health workers, philanthropic individuals may be stimulated to do the same for their communities and also give a helping hand to "Medicins sans Frontiers," whenever possible, and wherever it is needed.

Your article about Prof. Karl Sperling's booklet "GENE-AN-TICS" is very interesting. During
my active participation in international conferences and meetings, I also endeavored to express important issues by cartoons, funny x-rays, and photographs. At the end of my clinical career,
I have acquired a good collection of cartoons, and I feel that cartoons in general should be
used as a necessary aid in education.

I was glad when I read the article about participatory community medical services. The idea of "Doctors without Borders" is a good one. Prof. Booz discusses nicely how to introduce the medical aid to all of world for the sake of humanity and international community.

Dr. Khaled Ali
khaledkm79@yahoo.com

I read with interest the article written by Prof. Booz entitled, "Community Doctors Without Borders". I share with him his frustrations. In 1967, I personally volunteered at Alexandria University hospitals as a medical student. Some of the surgeon staff were ordered to the war-front to deal with causalities. In 1973, on my first residency job in general surgery at Makassed Hospital in Beirut (Lebanon), I dealt with casualties from Ramalah Al-Bida. Egypt sent volunteer doctors to work at the Palestinian camps. There were also Japanese and Italian volunteer doctors. In 1986, I was in Northern Yemen during conflict and only knew it from the BBC! How can we get independence and finance without the blessing of politicians? We need a new crescent/cross, and approach the UN, Arab League, Islamic Council and Red Cross. We have to plan our objective, code of conduct and form a committee or a council for a feasibility study. We also need to get feedback from "Medicins San Frontiers" and the Red Cross. I will be more than happy to participate in any future developments.
