International Genetic
Conference a sound success
Over 500 medical doctors
& scientists from
15 countries presented 130 updated studies
The second International Conference on Population and Molecular Genetics Update was held in the Meridien Le Caire Hotel last month as a collaborative effort between the Genetics Unit, Pediatrics Department Ain Shams University (GPA), and the Middle East Geneticists Association of America (MEGA). Over one hundred and thirty presented works came from Algeria, Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, Iran, Kuwait, Netherlands, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Tunisia, UAE, the UK, and the USA. The conference's attendance was over five hundred. Prof. Rabah M. Shawky, the conference president, was recognized with the "MEGA Award" for her significant contribution along with her colleagues towards the success of this Middle Eastern international conference. The award was granted by Prof. A.S. Teebi the president of MEGA. In closing, the organizers and attendants unanimously announced the birth of the Arab Geneticists Association (AGA). A notification of this decision was sent to Prof. Hamdy El-Sayed, the President of the Arab Medical Association.
Ain Shams University's Faculty of Medicine which was established in 1946 currently boasts 30,000 graduates, many of whom are prominent international figures in their respective fields. Both Ain SHams and Alexandria medical colleges offer MSc., MD, and PhD in medical and human genetics.
The Ambassadors sends its congratulations to Prof. Hamed Shatla, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University, Prof. Yehia El-Gamal, head of the pediatric department, and Prof. Rabah Shawky, head of the genetic unit and their colleagues, Prof. Farida Farid, Prof. Hamid El-Khayat, Prof. Khalila Mokhtar & Prof. Karima Abd El-Khalek for their excellent efforts in this Egyptian, Arab, Middle Eastern, and International genetic conference.
