"GROWING TOGETHER"

In Victoria, British Columbia, the 11th National Conference of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) will be hosted in the University of Victoria between May 20-22, 1999. The motto of the conference is "Growing Together."
The conference provides a forum of discussion and an opportunity for networking among parents and professionals. It includes four plenary, five sessions and thirty-six speakers including the famous expertise Dr.Patrick McLeod and Dr. Len Leshin. Prof. McLeod will speak about Gene Geography-Predicting the Future and Dr. Leshin's plenary will address Current Medical Issues in Down Syndrome." Also the actress Andre Triedom, who co-starred with Chris Burke in "Life Goes On" will speak on "Self-Advocacy.
Building Better Tomorrows
In Canada, CDSS's mission is to enhance the quality of life for all individuals with Down Syndrome by responding to both their needs and their families' needs and promoting expert information and advice. The society's motto is "Building Better Tomorrow." It is well known that CDSS promotes public awareness of the rights and capabilites of the persons with DS during the National DS Awareness Week (Nov1-7). The society disseminates a number of educational material including a The CDSS Quarterly and information booklets that give answers to many of the questions asked by the parents of babies, children and adults with Down Syndrome regarding medical care and future offspring of married couples with Down Syndrome.
