SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ITS PLACE IN THE
EGYPTIAN CONSTITUTION-PART 1
(ARABIC)

By Honourable Judge and Chancellor, Dr. Emad El-Naggar

Assistant Minister of Justice, Egypt

The Ambassadors Magazine is publishing the first of three parts in the extensive study entitled "Social Justice in Egypt" written by a distinguished legal expert. The second part will be published in the next issue of the magazine (Vol. 11, Issue 24, July 2008). He discusses social justice in three chronological eras: the Pharaonic, the Islamic and the modern periods following the July, 1952 revolution and the changes that characterize the times of Presidents Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak. In part 1 of the series, Dr. El-Naggar focuses on the Pharaonic Egypt and the Middle Ages.

The study also focussed on Ancient Egyptian Goddess Ma'at, who was considered the personification of truth, justice and order.  She is usually depicted as a woman wearing a feather upon her head. The hearts of the deceased were weighed against her feather at the Judgment. The heart of a 'Truth Speaker' would weigh the same as the feather of Maat.
