REFLECTIONS

Teenage Corner!

This new corner is devoted to poetry written by teenagers,
reflecting on some of the issues they face.

I would like to introduce in our new Teenage Corner a young talented teenage whom I got to meet last summer and was really impressed! She writes poetry and short stories. What is so special about her writings is the vivid element of “Humanity.” She tries to tackle issues of interest and relevance to her age group, teens in particular and humanity in general. I can see in her a bright future.

Hasnaa Al-Kahateeb, born on May, 19,  1991 is  now in Grade 10 at Alhamraa School, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She 2 brothers and a younger sister.

Hasnaa is not only interested in reading, writing, watching T.V., music (mainly Rock), dancing, planning to take lessons in drums, drawing and painting, but also playing the guitar, internet (chatting, downloading, searching, EVERYTHING), basketball, swimming are amongst her hobbies.

She says, “Last Thursday 23rd November 2006, for the first time two of my poems (What’s Happening To The World?!!, To A Friend) were published in the "Arab News" YAAAY!!! And I’m expecting Arab-News to call me for an interview regarding two of my books.” Below are four of Hasnaa's recent poems.

Let’s Wish her Success

To A Friend

I know that I'm not there and you're not here,

But I can feel that your love is near.

You're the true friend I never had,

You're always there when I am sad.

I wish our friendship would last forever,
Happiness, togetherness and separate never.

I'm late!!

Things were really great and the time was pretty late,

By the time I reached there it was already half past eight,

I was stuffed from all the food we ate,

I slowly opened the front gate,

Out of the blue moon came, YOU'RE GROUNDED,

Now that's what you get for being late.

What a Fight!!

Tell me more did you put up a fight

Tell me more did it happen tonight,

Tell me more did you stand upright,

Tell me more did you hit him and there went off the light,

Tell me more did you run out of sight,

Tell me more were you back when the sun was bright,

If that's what happened you put up a hell of a fight.

My Dream……Will Not Die

Oh dream! Oh dream! Where have you gone?

Am I the reason that you haven't yet begun?

I will not let you go not now not ever,

I will keep on holding you tight forever.

I will always smile and I'll never cry,

Because I won't let my dreams go away and die.
