In February 2006, Kuwait Medical Genetics Centre (KMGC) will celebrate its 25th anniversary of operations. The Center's Founder and Director, Dr. Sadika Al-Awadi, will be hosting the first international conference of medical genetics to be held at the luxurious Marina Mall Hotel with 12 distinguished speakers from Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Tunisia, UK and USA. Sessions will discuss community genetics, aneuploidy syndromes, metabolic disorders, clinical dysmorphology, molecular genetics and neurogenetics. I am honoured to have been invited among the strong line-up of distinguished medical scientists at this conference. The Ambassadors Research Foundation congratulates the Kuwait Ministry of Public Health and Kuwait University for organizing the first such conference, with the hopes that research presented will serve national, regional and global benefits. Conference information is available at www.hsc.edu.kw/medicine/events/KMGC_Int_Conference/
The Ambassadors Magazine will prepare a supplement in its next issue (Volume 9, Issue 2, July 2006) entitled "EXCEPTIONAL MEN AND WOMEN IN MODERN KUWAIT"

LETTERS TO THE AMBASSADORS
I am a Staff Writer for The Cardinal Tradition. The Cardinal Tradition is a high school newspaper, in Elizabeth High School. I am writing an article on Amish Communities and since I live in Colorado I'm having difficulty getting pictures. I was looking on The Ambassadors website and I thought the pictures were capturing what I wanted for the article. Can I please have your permission to use these pictures?

Sitting in front of a computer for a prolonged period can take its toll on your body. Protect yourself against common computer-related aches and pains with these tips from the American Physical Therapy Association: Get up every half hour and do some gentle stretches. Keep your feet flat on the floor or consider using a foot rest. Don't let your hands hover over the keyboard. This creates excess tension in your hands and arms. Watch for lighting glare. Use the 20-20-20 rule: blink 20 times, and stare 20 feet away from the screen every 20 minutes. Avoid movements that put your neck in an awkward position.

It was a great pleasure to read in the July 2005 issue review of the Medical Mind of Shakespeare. The review was beautifully illustrated with nice comments that pleased us no end. You would have guessed by now, that I am the author of that book. The Medical Mind of Shakespeare has been out of print in Australia for many years. I approached the publishers for another edition but they were not prepared to print a second edition. Reading your reviews, I get a feeling that the book is available in America. Is this possible? I trust you will appreciate my curiosity in this regards, and I would appreciate hearing from you.

I am the executive director of a foundation in Michigan which holds an annual event each April. It is a black tie event attended by corporate donors to support education and opportunities for persons with Down syndrome. The past two years, we have displayed and sold art by artists with developmental challenges. Do you have someone I could talk with about your program and the possible participation of one or two of your artists at our event next April?

Atlas of Genetic Diagnosis and Counselling
By Harold Chen, MD, FAAP
Louisiana State University Health Science Center, Shreveport, LA
Atlas of Genetic Diagnosis and Counselling reflects the author's 38-year experience in clinical genetics practice incorporating clinical photographs of patents to illustrate selected genetic disorders and congenital malformations. A detailed outline of each disorder is provided describing the genetic/basic defects, clinical features, diagnostic investigations, and genetic counselling including recurrence risk, prenatal diagnosis, and management. Color photographs are used to illustrate the findings in different age groups and ethnicities. The Atlas also includes photographs of prenatal ultrasound, imaging, molecular, cytogenetic, and post-mortem findings to help illustrate diagnostic strategies and trying to gap the basic science and clinical medicine. An extensive literature review is included to ensure up-to-date information and to provide a relevant bibliography for each disorder. This important Atlas will help physicians in their recognition and understanding of these conditions and their care of affected individuals and families.Humana

The idea of establishing the MIDDLE EAST CHROMOSOME ABNORMALITY DATA BASE (MECAD) has been initiated by the great work of Prof. Digambar S. Borgaonkar, my Guru, and Founder/Author of CHROMOSOMAL VARIATION IN MAN: A catalog of Chromosomal Variants and Anomalies, which has been published since 1974, and the 9th Edition is due for publication by John Wiley Publishers. As a Cytogeneticist, since last 35 years, and working in the Middle East (Kuwait and Dubai,UAE) during the last 25 years, I have been thinking of establishing a ME-CAD with Prof. Borgaonkar to register all cases of chromosomal abnormalities and variants, some of them extremely rare, as no such database is available for MIDDLE EAST (Arab Population). The database will be set up that can be accessible through the Web and that will allow Clinicians, Cytogeneticists, and researchers to submit and retrieve information on chromosomal abnormalities diagnosed in various Genetic Centers in the Middle East.
