Educators Without Borders

"THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF SPREADING LIGHT:
TO BE THE CANDLE OR THE MIRROR THAT REFLECTS IT"

The Ambassadors Research Foundation is a strong advocate for all humanitarian activities, particularly those relating to medical and social needs. Our hope is that "Global Doctors" can achieve similar successes to that of the French NGO "Doctors Without Borders" (MSF). In March 2004 a meeting of the WHO in Cairo will witness the birth of "Global Academy of Tropical Surgery," a multidisciplinary organization for education and research.

"Global Doctors" and "MSF"

"Global Doctors" is a new non-profit organization, which was born in Sudan's capital, Khartoum in January 2003 during a ceremony held at Al-Zubair Charity Foundation (ZCF) (zct@sudanmail.net) in the presence of HE Dr. Ahmed Bilal Osmane, Sudanese Minister of Health and Dr. Babakr Abdelsalam, Minister of Health in Khartoum province. The elected board of the new organization includes, Dr. Al-Gazoli Dafa`alla (President), Dr. Mahoud K. Al-Booz and Dr. Suliman Al-Ghandour as vice presidents. Of the distinguished doctors in attendance were Profs. Amin al-Gohary (UAE) and Ibraheem Omira. The main objectives of this organization are  to provide health, medical services, help hospitals, as well as emergency centers and elderly persons in collaboration with charity organizations, help areas affected by natural disasters and epidemics, as well as participating in the establishment of the health & medical institutions, colleges, research centers, libraries and provide scholarships in these fields. The organization adopts suitable means to achieve its objectives and further develops its financial resources through establishing income generating projects in addition to donations, fund raising activities as well as providing technical support through international & local non-governmental organizations. This organization seeks to carry out charitable activities all over the globe starting from its headquarters in Sudan with the right to establish other branches all over the world with an open declaration appealing to all those who are concerned & interested in humanitarian activities for assistance.

It is well known that in 1971, a small group of French doctors founded Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors Without Borders or MSF) to deliver emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation. MSF functions on the basis that all people have the right to medical care regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that the needs of these people supersede respect for national borders. It was the first non-governmental organization to both provide emergency medical assistance and publicly bear witness to the plight of the populations they served. Over a period of more than 30 years, MSF has grown drastically and assisted both war-torn and peaceful regions with medical services. They have sections in 18 countries and each year, more than 2,500 volunteer doctors, nurses, other medical professionals, logistics experts, water/sanitation engineers, and administrators join 15,000 locally hired staff to provide medical aid in more than 80 countries.

Prof. Al-Booz, FRCS, FACS, the distinguished traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon, is one of the strong believers of the role of both the "Global Doctors" and "MSF" plays in helping those in crisis and those deprived from health services. In the ceremony held in Khartoum, he spoke about the importance of creating more medically-related humanitarian organizations in the world in order to deal with the growing need throughout the world. He made an open request for world support to "Global Doctors." If you are interested to join this non-profit organization, you can contact Dr. Al-Booz at mkbooz@hotmail.com
