REFLECTIONS

ARTISTIC SYMBOLISM

By Hala El-Banna

Talking about art,

I come to think about

The fine sentiments

Present in God’s creation.

The beauty that surrounds,

The purity within each and every soul,

The warmth in a portrait,

The feelings in a melody,

The emotions in a poem,

The moment captured in a picture,

The fineness or crudity in a sculpture,

The strength or weakness in humans,

The pain or happiness,

The agony or cheerfulness,

The love reflected in a variety of forms,

The message transmitted.

The Sun and the Moon,

The Earth and Sky,

The Rivers and Oceans,

Mountains and Hills,

The wonderful, magnificent creations of THE LORD.

The choice is ours to make,

Pick and choose,

Either the guiding light of the sun, or the heat that burns.

The brightness of the moon, or its darkness.

The earth with its riches and wonders, or its pollution and poorness.

The purity in the blue sky, or the angry clouds.

The rivers and oceans that bear abundance, or bear fear from the unknown!

The mountains with the idea of transcendence, or that of fall.

The wisdom of the ancient Egyptians was reflected

In the Sphinx,

The head symbolized rationality and mind,

The body reflected the power and strength of a lion

Not only that, but

Akhenaton,

The unsolved mystery,

The great king,

Embodied in the symbolic statue

The greatness of a man

Together with the fertility of a woman

The element of completeness needed to be projected!

Finally, it is up to the artist to pick and choose

For the gift is in each and every meditating soul.
