REFLECTIONS

A Word From Egypt

Hala El-Banna
International Poet 2001&2002
(International Society of Poets, MD, USA)
PhD candidate, Cairo University

Bewildered by authenticity, grandeur and reality
One becomes,
Touring the Egyptian Pharaonic Museum.
Viewing the great mastery,
The Ancient Egyptian is reflected in artistry.
KING AKHENATON,
Among the very interesting Pharaohs of the 18th dynasty,
Is said to hold magnificent mystery.
Being strong, powerful and confident back then,
He introduced "Naturalistic Theory,"
Refusing any kind of perfection through art
As reality and it alone was sought.
From a naturalistic point of view
One notices these imperfections
However, this reflection through art
Was the King's aim and target.
The image of rhizomelic dwarfism,
Together with that of Lady Punt's obesity,
All reflect a period in time so rich where
Art bloomed and prospered with a foresight so unbelievable
That not only artists, but also scientists in our modern days
Try to look into such deepness and diversity.
This in itself remains a treasure to hold!
