Over the past year, we have been working hard to establish the Arab Genetic Disease Database (AGDDB) as an online, publicly accessible clinical and mutation database  of  genetic disorders  in Arab Populations.  The database is based on data contained  in the book Genetic Disorders Among Arab Populations [Teebi and Farag, 1997],  and is  meant to act as the first reference of its kind in the world. It will  be  an  extremely  beneficial  tool  for  clinicians, genetic counselors and researchers in every part of the world. Recently, work on AGDDB has accelerated significantly  as  we have secured significant funding for the project. We now expect to have a fully operational database hopefully before the next meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics in October of 2001.

I enjoyed reading The Ambasadors Magazine, and am looking forward to reading more on Yemen with new cartoons by the international cartoonist Mr.Toughan. His profile in the MEGASTARS section was fascinating.

As a citizen of Singapore, I was intrigued to read about the Middle Eastern country of Yemen and its culture. The drawings by Toughan were expressive of Yemeni life.

Motonobu Nishimura of Japan (far right)
at  Wagga Wagga Peace conference.

As a member of the editorial board for The Ambassadors Magazine, I highly recommend my Japanese colleague Amb. Moto Nishimura to join the editorial board. Amb. Nishimura is a very respected promoter of education and international advocate of peace. He had an excellent contribution in the Wagga Wagga Peace Conference held in Australia - 2000 and would be a great representative of his Japanese culture.

Millions of people partied in Beijing’s streets last night, celebrating the city’s winning bid for the 2008 Olympics, seen by many as a milestone in China’s emergence as a leading nation. The 2008 Olympics, China’s imminent entry to the World Travel Organization and its international status all bring with them responsibilities.

North American companies are thrilled at the prospect of sponsoring the world’s biggest sports event in China. They are excited by the prospect of gaining a foothold in the fast-growing market for consumer products and financial services in the world’s most populous nation.

We strongly recommend travelers to be referred to a specialized travel clinic. Travel practitioners are specifically focused on monitoring complex fluctuations in global epidemiology. They are best qualified to advice and vaccinate against the diseases and strains most likely to be encountered at each traveler's destination. The media can play a valuable role building awareness and increasing the rate of travel immunization. At Aventis Pasteur, we are leaders in the field of travel medicine.
